Woman From Sugoi Names Her Child William Ruto After President Elect
Following the announcement of William Ruto as the victor of the election on Monday, August 15, a woman in Kosachei hamlet in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County, named her kid after him.
Emily Maiyo, now a mother of three, gave birth to her son on August 9 after casting her vote at Kosachei Primary School, the same premise Dr. Ruto cast his vote.
Maiyo claimed that even though she was nine months along in her pregnancy and knew that she might give birth at any time, that did not stop her from enjoying her constitutional rights.
w”Because it was my civic duty to go to that polling station and cast my ballot, I said I will not remain behind while others were electing the leadership for the next five years,” Maiyo said
After arriving back at her house, Maiyo claims she experienced labor pains. She claims she was brought to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where she delivered birth.
She reveals that because her newborn became ill and delayed her from thinking of a name, she was unable to do so.
“When I gave birth to my son, choosing a name for him never came across my mind because as soon as we were taken to have a rest in the maternity ward, he became sick and that distracted me,” she said.
A few days later, after Dr. Ruto’s victory at the Bomas of Kenya was announced by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati, Maiyo decided it was appropriate to give her kid the name Ruto to symbolize a new beginning for her family.
Ruto, according to Maiyo, has been important in the region ever when he was elected Eldoret North MP until he was appointed Deputy President.
“I chose to name my son after Dr. William Ruto to signify a new beginning not only in our Kosachei village but also in my family. I believe my son is a blessing from God.”
