We Will Accept The Rulling Of The Supreme Court; Francis Atwoli Claims Asking Kenyans To Stay Calm
Francis Atwoli, secretary general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), has encouraged Kenyans to maintain calm despite the intrigues surrounding the election results as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration gets ready to make way for new leadership.
Atwoli made a call for peace from all sides of the political spectrum while speaking in Auki Village, Meru County, on Friday during the funeral of the late COTU veteran Isaiah Kubai.
A supporter of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya claimed that after the coalition party decided to challenge William Ruto’s election victory on August 9, he had decided to wait for the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“Kenyans held a peaceful election, which has been witnessed throughout the world. I want us to remain peaceful. Tolerance is the key, we advised Odinga to follow the way of the court, and he agreed. William Ruto also agreed to accept the outcome of the courts. Kama hao wameshakubali, sisi pia tutayakubali matokeo,” Atwoli said.
“Yule atakayechukua baada ya hii mambo yote, tuambiwe huyu ndio President, we will accept him for the sake of our peace, and Kenya will continue.”
The COTU leader also gave assurances to employees all around the nation that the procedure would be peaceful because backup plans had been made by the administration.
“I want to thank the government because we were afraid hii kitu ikiendelea kwa muda mrefu wafanyikazi wengi ni wa vibarua, na wangepoteza kazi. Lakini Joseph Kinyua alihakikishia wafanyikazi kuwa kuna amani, watu warudi kazini na sasa kila mahali ni kawaida,” he stated.
The outspoken leader also warned social media users against stirring up political rivalries as he discussed the risks of violence.
“Ninawasihi wale ambao wanaenda kwa mitandao na kuincite watu ama kuleta vitisho, wawache hayo maneno na tuwache korti iamue na tutafuata uamuzi huo,” he stated.
