Wavinya Ndeti Elected Machakos Governor Under Wiper Party Ticket
Wavinya Ndeti, a former chief administrative secretary (CAS) for transportation and infrastructure, has been elected governor of Machakos.
Ms. Ndeti received 226,609 votes on a Wiper Party ticket, defeating Nzioka Waita of CCU (129,181) and Johnstone Muthama of UDA (37,980).
Francis Maliti of Maendeleo Chap Chap received 9,981 votes in the race to succeed Governor Alfred Mutua, and Rose Mulwa received 4,424 votes.
On Friday, Mr. Waita had declared defeat, claiming that Ms. Ndeti’s strategies had outperformed his.
“I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate our incoming Governor for the County of Machakos Hon. Wavinya Ndeti. I wish her & her team every success as she takes over the reigns of the County 016,” Waita wrote in a tweet on Friday evening.
After Agnes Kavindu of the Wiper Party successfully maintained her senate seat with 155,883 votes, Machakos will have an all-female top county leadership.
On an ODM ticket, Urbanus Mutunga Muthama received 65,606 votes.
Joyce Kamene Kasimbi won the contest for Woman Representative after receiving 253,106 of the 413,875 total votes cast.
