Uganda’s Former Security Minister Hospitalized In Nairobi
Former Ugandan Security Minister General Elly Tumwine is now being treated at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
Since the four-star general collapsed during the wedding of a Ugandan journalist and was later taken to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, there has been suspicion about his health.
Formerly, General Tumwine had a position of authority within the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF). From 1984 to 1987, the Mbarara District resident also held the position of NRA commander.
His daughter Cynthia Tumwine hasn’t confirmed the rumors, but she recently posted a mysterious message on social media that might.
Tumwine called for police to shoot demonstrators during demonstrations before and following Uganda’s general election in 2021.
“Police have a right to shoot you and kill you if you reach a certain level of violence. Can I repeat? Police have a right to shoot you and you die for nothing…. do it at your own risk,” he said while addressing press.
“That said, I wouldn’t wish the last 24 hours on anyone. Travel time needs to undo social media because it’s currently in the pits. God is faithful, regardless, though [love emoji]. We give him praise,” she stated.
Speaking for the UPDF, Brig. Felix Kualigye stated it was against policy to question a general’s health. To put an end to the death rumors, he asked, “Do you imagine that a UPDF general can die and we keep quiet?”
