Trouble In Roots Party As Wajackoyah And His Running Mate Justina Fail To Agree On Who To Endorse
The presidential candidate and his running partner are involved in a tug-of-war over whether to support one of their rivals or support the incumbent in next week’s general election, which appears to be a turning point for Kenya’s newest and fastest-rising political party.
If the second option is chosen, Roots Party may face a gloomy future since Prof. Wajackoyah and Justina Wamae may have different goals in mind when deciding who to endorse for the State House position.
The dispute probably started after Wajackoyah appeared in a now-viral video while enjoying himself at a Kisumu entertainment venue and was seen to be endorsing Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja One, a Kenyan presidential candidate.
“I am here to join in the pack of liberators in this country. And the person I look at, the person who makes me stand here is none other than Raila Amollo Odinga,” the Roots Party boss is heard saying in the 37-second clip.
However, the party has since refuted reports that Wajackoyah was genuinely endorsing Odinga’s candidacy by using those remarks.
Roots Party sought to clarify that Wajackoyah had shown respect to all three other presidential candidates in a statement to newsrooms by Spokesperson Jaymo Ule Msee, implying that it was only the portion where he spoke about Odinga that was allegedly edited and shared in order to push some sort of agenda.
Jaymo went on to say that the presidential candidate for the Roots Party is running till the vote and has not and will not support any other candidate.
“The notion that Prof Wajackoyah has endorsed Raila Odinga is a hopeless imagination and a wishful thinking that only exists in the minds of a biased media,” noted the Spokesperson.
“We understand the various political camps have panicked over their expectations vs reality in this election and therefore have resulted in all underhand means to create a notion of winning this election. We would like to distance ourselves from those claims and assure our supporters that victory is coming.”
In a surprising twist, however, Wajackoyah’s running mate Justina Wamae came out to say that the Roots Party has not endorsed anyone
