Tragic Accident At The Nairobi Express Way Left One Dead; CCTV Footage Shows
In a video seen by SearchKe.co.ke, the accident appears to have been caused by speeding on the part of the deceased driver who approached the toll station at a very high speed.
According to police sources, the speeding car’s driver passed away instantly, and two of its passengers suffered significant injuries.
The third vehicle’s passengers as well as the toll booth employee were taken to the neighboring hospitals where they got medical care. The vehicle wrecks were transported to the police station along the Athi River.
The station will be temporarily closed, according to the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA). The destroyed portion of the station is now being repaired.
Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna expressed alarm over the rise in traffic deaths on Kenyan highways, attributing it to drivers’ disrespect for posted speed restrictions.
“Drivers violating speed restrictions are primarily to blame for the collisions. For instance, the Nairobi Highway has a speed limit of 80 kph or below, which is prominently posted along the expressway “said Oguna.
He advised drivers utilizing the Expressway to obey the posted speed restrictions and further disclosed that steps were being taken to reduce speeding on the elevated expressway.
