They Offered Me 50M To Step Down; Bahati Claims Amid The Mathare Mp Seat Saga
MP candidate Bahati claims that he received a Ksh 50 million offer to withdraw from the Mathare MP race in favor of his rival Antony Oluoch.
Speaking on Radio Citizen, Bahati claimed that the majority of his rivals don’t live in Mathare and have been pleading with him to resign.
“Some have even come with offers to pay me to step down. They have offered me millions, up to Ksh.50 million. They know that when they get to office they will regain the money.”
Bahati who is among the people who joined politics this year and said that the field is full of fake friends.
“I miss genuine friends, in politics, you seat with a friend who says what they do not mean. Most politicians are not genuine,” he said.
Bahati had said earlier this week that he had not resigned in support of Mathare MP incumbent Anthony Oluoch of the ODM.
Edwin Sifuna, the secretary general of the ODM, revealed on Monday that the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party had chosen Oluoch to fly their banner in the poll on August 9.
Later that night, politician Gitonga Ndegwa declared that they had spoken to Bahati and that his campaign had ended right away.
Bahati said that Jubilee, his party, was unaware of the propaganda.
“My point and message to Mathare people is that I am on the ballot and I am not stepping down for anyone,” he said.
Sifuna had congratulated Jubilee Party, an Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya member, on Twitter for deciding to support Oluoch.
Sifuna should cease disseminating false information, according to Bahati, and instead focus on his campaigns.
“He is jobless, unlike me. I am an award-winning musician. Sifuna and Hon [Rachel] Shebesh said they cannot support youth like me but I want to remind them that Mathare people will soon decide,” he said.
After an unsuccessful attempt to have the singer withdrawn from the offer, Bahati accused Sifuna of using brokers to submit a false statement.
