The US Embassy Issues American Citizens In Kisumu Directives And Measures To Take During Elections
Just a few days before the August 9 General Elections, the U.S. embassy in Kenya has restricted personnel’s movement in Kisumu.
The embassy claims that Kenya has occasionally seen some pre-election violence throughout election cycles. As a result, the State Department has warned American people to maintain their vigilance.
The embassy also cautioned its people against participating in any election-related protests or rallies because they might turn violent.
“Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention. Strikes and other protest activities related to economic conditions occur regularly,” read a statement in part.
The embassy continued by outlining a number of steps Americans should take throughout the election season. They consist of;
Track local media reports
Eschew crowds
Abstain from protests
Observe secrecy
Watch your surroundings and be cautious when using ATMs and going to banks
Avoid displaying any signs of riches.
Examine your security.

Carry necessary identification, such as a copy of your US passport’s bio page.
