So Many Emotions As Family Marks One Year Anniversary Since Kianjakoma Brothers Died
The slain Kianjokoma brothers’ family commemorated the first anniversary of their boys’ passing.
The family of the two pleaded with the government to expedite the prosecution of the cops suspected of being responsible for the killing of the two brothers, saying they had not yet come to terms with the brothers’ deaths.
Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura’s father, Nwiga Kamunyoti, claimed that there was nothing that could be done to bring his sons back.
“We have not come to terms with it until that time justice will be delivered and the truth is even if those behind their killings are jailed my sons will not come back but we will hard on strong,” Kamunyoti said.
Six police officers were charged with the murder as a result of the two men’s deaths: Consolata Njeri, Benson Mbuthia, Lilian Cherono, Martin Wanyama, Nicholas Sang, and James Mwaniki, a driver.
The two are believed to have been murdered for disobeying curfew restrictions put in place at the height of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Despite the prosecution’s request that they not be freed, the cops were released on a Sh300,000 bond. The management of witnesses, according to Peter Kiama, Director of the Independent Medical Legal Unit (IMLU), is proving to be difficult in this case.
“We tried to convince the court not to release the suspects on bond, but our appeal was declined although the suspects were ordered not to travel to the area where the incident happened.
“Other witnesses have not been given witness protection and that’s another issue that is worrying because the suspects have access to firearms and they can harm them,” Kiama said.
The next hearing for the case is set for September 21 with more witnesses expected to testify.
