Ringtone Apoko Cries In Court In Assault Case Against Robert Alai
When recounting how Kileleshwa MCA candidate Robert Alai allegedly assaulted him last year, gospel singer Alex Apoko, aka Ringtone, became upset and started crying in front of the judge on Thursday.
When giving his version of the events at the Kibera Law Courts, Ringtone appeared to battle to contain his tears as he related how, according to viral videos, Alai allegedly attacked and hurt him on the road.
The infamous blogger, according to the controversial singer, cracked the window of his car before punching him in the jaw and inflicting injuries.
“Hakunigonga akiwa amenyamaza…alinigonga kwa jaw akisema ‘Ringtone nitakuua,’ “he said in his testimony.
Ringtone also said that even though he was the oppressed party, he still stepped in to prevent Alai from reportedly being lynched by a group of young people who were enraged by his acts.
The blogger-turned-politician, who has nearly 1.7 million followers on Twitter, was warned by the court against making direct or indirect online comments regarding the case.
On July 23, 2021, Alai was taken into custody and accused of hitting Ringtone with a wooden club at the Kilimani Police Station.
In an altercation that started on Loitoktok Road and proceeded to Dennis Pritt and Likoni Roads, the two accused one another of obstruction.
At a junction on Loitoktok Road, Alai was charged for striking Ringtone’s vehicle.
He played not guilty and was released on a cash bail of ksh300,000
