Don’t Be Punitive; Raila Defends Tabitha Karanja On The KRA vs Keroche Breweries Battle.
Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party, has defended the embattled Keroche Breweries following the latest shutdown.
Raila asked the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) not to interfere with Keroche’s operations during a meeting in Murang’a on Friday, June 17. In a heartfelt appeal, the ODM leader pleaded with the KRA to allow the Tabitha Karanja-led establishment to continue operating.

Raila asked the taxman not to be punitive in enforcing their tax regulations and policies, adding that Tabitha would have no way out because she is a Kenyan.
“It is not right to become punitive on tax. Mwambie kama hawezi kulipa leo, lipa kesho. Yeye ni Mkenya, atatoroka kwenda wapi? Saidia yeye aweze kulipa. (Tell her if she can’t pay today then tomorrow is another day. She’s a Kenya. Where can she run off to? Help her so that she can pay the arrears) Don’t kill the goose that lays the golden egg,”said Raila.
The presidential candidate warned that KRA’s actions were scaring away investors at a time when the government needed the private sector to thrive and create wealth for the country.
“If you close a business, you are ‘killing’ the investor and the employees. A government need to create a good environment for the private sector to thrive and create wealth,” the former premier explained.”
