President Uhuru Asks Kenyans To Move Peacefully Into The General Elections
As the General Election on August 9th draws near, President Uhuru Kenyatta has emphasized the need of Kenyans continuing to live in peace with one another.
The Head of State highlighted that Kenyans should always uphold peace and should avoid following leaders that advocate hostility and polarizing politics.
In this regard, President Kenyatta advised the people of Kisii and Nyamira to vote for nationalist officials who are members of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance, including presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his vice presidential running mate Martha Karua.
On Wednesday, President Kenyatta addressed a sizable crowd of onlookers from Kisii and Nyamira counties who had gathered at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii town.
The President also advised political leaders to run peaceful campaigns without frightening voters after holding a meeting of leaders earlier at the Kisii State Lodge.
If Kenyans prioritize the needs of the nation over their own interests, he claimed, the country’s development momentum won’t be disrupted.
“To succeed, you must be a team. People must work together if you are to succeed. We have been able to work together all along… and that is how we want to continue building the unity of this nation.
“There is no one tribe that alone has the capacity to develop this nation. The country belongs to every citizen regardless of where he or she comes from. We must be equally regarded and respected,” President Kenyatta said.
He reiterated that ensuring equity and inclusion as well as bringing Kenyans together have always been his goals.
At the same time, President Kenyatta praised the people of Kisii and Nyamira for their support throughout his administration, noting that they allowed the National Government to carry out a variety of programs that have changed the area.
“It has been a pleasure for me to work together with you, we have achieved what we could have. On the side of roads, we have tarmacked 200 kilometres in these two counties.
In this connection, President Kenyatta expressed optimism that the next Government will continue working to uplift the lives of Kenyans to higher levels.
“Work does not end, you do what you can and leave others to continue because it is just like that. The life of a nation is a continuous process, but the most important thing is that it must be a process where people move together,” President Kenyatta said.
James Ongwae, the governor of Kisii, and Amos Nyaribo, the governor of Nyamira, commended President Kenyatta for his visionary leadership, which ensured that the regions made considerable progress during his period in office.
Among the other leaders and contenders for the various positions were Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Health PS Susan Mochache Senator Sam Ongeri, Women Representative Janet Ong’era, and Kisii Governor hopeful Simba Arati.
