Police Rescue MP Elect From Angry Mob For Switching From Azimio La Umoja To Kenya Kwanza
Armed police responded quickly to stop a group of troublemakers from raiding Ugenya MP David Ochieng’s residence on Saturday.
According to reports, the young people were opposing the lawmaker’s choice to switch from Azimio la Umoja to William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.
Security organizations learned of their preparations, however, and stopped the thugs as they tried to enter the lawmaker’s residence by repelling them.
Anger-filled Ugenya citizens earlier broke into the CDF office for their constituency and looted items of unknown worth, accusing the MP of prioritizing his own interests over their own.
Bernard Wamugunda, the area sub-county police chief, verified the event and noted that an investigation had been opened.
“We are in the process of investigating the two incidents, allow us to complete the investigations then we shall give concrete information,” Wamugunda stated.
Following Ochieng’s official announcement that he and the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party had switched to Kenya Kwanza, President-elect William Ruto hosted the congressman in his Karen residence.
His constituents protested the decision by taking to the streets to voice their disapproval.
Nation quoted one of the protesters stating that “Ugenya is an Azimio la Umoja zone and nobody will change that. Not even the Member of Parliament. We elected him under the umbrella of Azimio la Umoja”.
“What David has done by taking us to Ruto is a big mistake. Why are you auctioning us off to Ruto? We can’t allow it),” Esther Atieno Onyango, one of the residents stated while protesting the move.
