Police In Narok County Rescues A Minor About To Undergo FGM
On Wednesday in Naira Sarisa, Narok county, detectives from the Child Protection Unit intervened to save a Form 2-student who was going to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM).
The youngster, who is reportedly a pupil at a school in Nakuru, got in touch with her principal when she learned that her parents wanted to make her get the operation.
The head girl then informed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) about the incident, which sparked an investigation, according to the DCI.
“Through a phone call, she immediately alerted her school head girl who was with her parents in Thindigua, Kiambu county, about the evil plans hatched by her parents,” wrote DCI on Thursday.
“Immediately, the head girl called our detectives, and a team was dispatched to Narok, for the minor’s rescue.”
Since then, the child has been sent to a safe house, where she will remain until further notice.
Her parents, who were detained and are being kept in police custody as part of the inquiry, have been found.
