Our Systems Have Not Been Hacked; IEBC CEO Marjan Amid Assures Kenyans
Reports that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBCportal )’s has been breached have been refuted.
Speaking to the media on Friday night, IEBC CEO Hussein Marjan claimed the allegations are untrue and that the organization has placed strong safeguards in place to protect its systems.
He continued by saying that the commission had put up flawless security firewalls since they had anticipated hacking attempts.
“There is misinformation going round that the commission’s systems have been compromised together with the results portal where we are hosting. We would like to assure that nothing like that has happened,” said Marjan.
“Of course, we had anticipated that there are people who will try to hack our systems and we have put mechanisms in place to ensure that our systems are secured.”
Marjan added that the commission is closely monitoring their portals and they remain hawk-eyed to ensure that the presidential tallying process is seamless and transparent.
“We are monitoring all our systems at all levels and nothing like that has happened and I don’t think that there’s a time our system has twinked or was down for even a second,” said Marjan.
Political agents present at the location had an altercation earlier in the day about a “suspect” laptop that one of the agents had brought inside.
To break the standoff, a security team headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow intervened and seized the laptop.
