Our Children Are Innocent; Families Of The Suspected Nakuru Serial Killers Claim
Claim that the five suspects arrested in connection with the Mawanga murders are connected to the cases has been refuted by the families of those arrested.
Evans Kebwaro, the primary suspect, is accused by the families of incriminating the five young men in order to exact revenge for their assistance in his detention following a robbery event that occurred last month.
Lucy Ngendo, mother to suspect Isaac Kinyanjui, said: “Wakati alishikwa na vitu ya wizi, walimshika wakamfunga mikono. Huyo kijana alienda na grudge juu alisema wataona, sasa hii mambo yote tunaona ni yeye aliwaekelea.”
Christine Wanyonyi, mother to Josphat Simiyu and Makokha Wanjala, said: “Hao watoto waliwatoa nje wakawagonga wakisema hao ni ‘Confirm’ na hao sio, hao watoto walikuwa wanafanya kazi ya mjengo.”
Dennis Nmbolo’s mother Caroline Akonya on her part said: “Kijana yangu hajawai kuwa kwa tabia mbaya hiyo wanasema, amekuwa na tabia mzuri tangu utotoni.”
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday announced the arrest of Kebwaro, the main suspect believed to have been behind the recent spate of killings witnessed in Mawanga, Nakuru County, as well as five of his alleged accomplices.
The five were named as; Julius Otieno (27), Josphat Simiyu (24), Dennis Nmbolo (25), Isaac Kinyanjui (18), and Makhoha Wanjala (25).
“Upon the arrest of the mastermind Evans Michori Kebwaro, in Keroka, Kisii County, the detectives raided a dwelling house in Nakuru’s Kivumbini area at 3am and pounced on Kebwaro’s five accomplices who had fallen into a deep slumber in a mud walled room”, DCI said in a statement.
“The unexpected arrival of the sleuths in the witching hours, was a nightmare for the thugs who took time before coming to terms with the reality of the moment, as the hunter finally became the hunted.”
The six suspects are currently being held in custody legally while they wait to be charged.
