Omanyala Boosts The 4*100 Relay Team To Finals As Kibiwot Wins Another Gold Medal
Omanyala was given the button since Kenya trailed at position 4 and had little chance of qualifying for the finals. The Commonwealth 100m Champion, however, was the game-changer as he easily defeated his rivals to provide Kenya a spot in the finals and finish second behind team Nigeria.
The fastest man in Africa is in fine form after winning gold for Kenya in the 100-meter event and reclaiming a title that had been lost for 60 years.
Earlier on Saturday at the Alexander Stadium at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, Abraham Kibiwot won yet another gold medal for Kenya in the 3000m steeplechase. India’s Avinash Mukund Sable won the race for Kibiwot, which finished in eight minutes and 11.15 seconds.
rAvinash Mukund Sable of India put up a spirited fight, threatening to steal Kibiwott’s medal, but Kibiwott held his ground till the finish line. In the end, Kenya won the medal thanks to their expertise, tact, tenacity, and strength.
World Under-20 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2021 Bronze was won by Amos Serem in 8:16.83. In the 1500-meter run, Oliver Hoare of Australia upset Kenya by winning gold by crossing the finish line first. Timothy Cheruiyot took home the silver.
Just after the final turn, Cheruiyot broke away from the pack and passed World 1,500m champion Jake Wightman to take the lead, which he held for a while.
However, he ran out of steam as Hoare sped by him with a few meters left to take gold in a pace that set a new Games Record of three minutes, 30.12 seconds. Wightman settled for third place in 3:30.53, while Cheruiyot finished second in a season-best 3:30.21.
