Mutula Kilonzo Junior Won The Makueni Governor Seat
Mutula Kilonzo Jr., a departing senator from Makueni, has been named the county’s next governor.
Patrick Musimba, the departing Kibwezi West MP, received 63,252 votes, placing second to Mutula Jr., who was running on a Wiper Party ticket.
Musimba campaigned as an Independent.
Immediately after receiving his certificate from the IEBC on Saturday night, Mutula Jr. praised the Makueni voters for what he called a “unanimous vote” in a thank-you note posted on social media.
“I sincerely thank the people of Makueni for their confidence and unanimous vote as their Second Governor. The 214,088 votes (73.95% of votes cast) is not a mean feat,” he said.
He added: “Wauni wa kwika nesa (Eagerness to do good).”
There were five contenders in the contest to succeed Governor Kivutha Kibwana: Emmanuel Mutisya of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who received 2,929 votes, David Wambua of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), who received 8,378, and Independent Anderson Kaloki, who received 843 votes.
Additionally, Governor Kibwana was defeated in the campaign for the Senate by outgoing Mbooni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo, who received 177,273 votes on behalf of the Wiper Party.
The two-term governor received 59,034 votes for his Chama Cha Uzalendo Party, placing him in second place, while Patrick Mbau of Nark Kenya received 36,676 votes.
