MP Candidate In Mvita Arrested Following A Protest In The Area
Following protests in the area, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Mvita Parliamentary constituency and a Member of County Assembly (MCA) candidate for Tudor ward were both detained.
Omar Shallo and Samir Bhalo are currently being held at the Makupa Police Station on suspicion of interfering with an election at the Tudor Village Hall. The two were apprehended when police attempted to dissuade locals from opposing camps from throwing rocks at one another.
“My colleague and I were raising concerns after receiving information that some voters were allowed to have more than one ballot paper. The police instead intervened and arrested us,” said Shallo who is the MP aspirant.
The two claim that they had no part in the confusion because their main goal was to determine why some voters were supposedly permitted to cast more than one ballot.
“Upon reaching there, we found out that some fishy activities were going on. People started attacking us,” Shallo added.
