Mike Sonko To Welcome Omanyala In Style; 15 Limousine Convoy And 10 Days Party
Mike Sonko, a former governor of Nairobi, has promised a goodie bag to Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala after his record-breaking triumph at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
After Omanyala won gold in the 100-meter final, Sonko announced on social media that, if the government permits it, he will send a convoy of 15 limousines to meet the athlete at the airport when he returns to the nation.
The divisive politician continued by saying that Omanyala would be granted permission to keep one of the limos for his own use and that a 10-day celebration would also be conducted in recognition of his achievements.
“Mulipokuwa mumelala munaota Mkenya mmoja ambae ni fastest man Africa nzima @Ferdiomanyala ameshindia nchi ya Kenya gold at the Commonwealth Games, clocking 10.02 seconds,” wrote Sonko.
“Pongezi sana na serikali ikikubali nitakupangia sherehe kubwa ya kukulaki na limousines 15 zikupokee na nikufanyie sherehe ya 10 days na nikupee limo moja bure iwe yako. Twakupenda sana for making us proud.”
Omanyala won the men’s 100-meter final on Wednesday night with a time of 10.02 seconds, giving Kenya a decisive victory and the first-ever gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
