‘Mature Politically First’, Uhuru Adressess Ruto As He Campaigns For Raila In Nakuru County
In the general election on August 9th, President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged residents of Nakuru to support Raila Odinga, the candidate for the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance.
Speaking at the opening of the Nakuru Railway Station, the president declared that, like his hug of William Ruto, his handshake with presidential contender Azimio was intended to bring Kenyans together and bring about peace.
President Kenyatta said the Kenya Kwanza camp needs time to mature politically by reducing its use of insults before running for president of Kenya, in a thinly veiled jab at the group led by Deputy President William Ruto.
“Hawa wengine ni wetu lakini inakaa they need time ya kutulia, kuwacha matusi, kuwacha spidi mingi na kujua ya kwamba kazi na ukweli inashinda matusi na chuki,” President Kenyatta said.
“Let them stay like that for now, there is still time, and there is no problem.”
He defended his agreement with Odinga by saying that, like when he worked with DP Ruto in 2013 to bring the Kalenjin and Kikuyu people together, he decided to mend bridges with the opposition leader for the sake of peace in the nation.
“Kutafuta Amani ni kitu kibaya? Msimamo wangu umekuwa kudumisha Amani. Wakati nilisema tushikane na wakalenjin na Ruto si kulikuwa na Amani?‘ He posed. “Wakati nilienda kutafuta Odinga, nilifanya makosa?”
President Kenyatta also urged support for the Azimio La Umoja affiliated candidates saying they would help the Raila government deliver its mandate.
“Na hawa wazee wetu hata kama mumekubali kuunga huyu mzee (Raila) mkono, sasa jamani kama hana wafanyakazi itakuwa aje?” Uhuru posed.
“Sasa Lee Kinyanjui hapa anataka amalize ile alianzia… Arama amalize… Senator ako hapa, Woman Rep pia na MCAs.”
