Lonyangapuo Dethrown As West Pokot Governor As Kachapin Takes Lead
After ousting outgoing county administrator John Lonyangapuo, Simon Kachapin has been elected as the new governor of West Pokot.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reported that Kachapin defeated Lonyangapuo with 86,476 votes, winning the election. Lonyangapuo received 84,610 votes.
Lonyangapuo ran under the banner of the Kenya Union Party (KUP), whereas Kachapin ran under the banner of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Lonyangapuo was competing against his deputy, Prof. Nicholas Atudonyang, who was running on behalf of KANU.
Kachapin, who was defeated by Lonyangapuo in 2017, will now take the county’s top position for the second time.
