Johnson And Johnson To Stop Selling Baby Powder Products Due To Its Health Risks
Beginning in 2023, Johnson & Johnson will stop selling its talc-based baby powder products all over the world.
As they continue to optimize long-term solutions, J&J stated in a statement on Wednesday that they will now switch to “an all cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio.”
“As part of a worldwide portfolio assessment, we have made the commercial decision to transition to an all cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio,” it said in a statement.
“This transition will help simplify our product offerings, deliver sustainable innovation, and meet the needs of our consumers, customers and evolving global trends.”
J&J reiterated their position that the product is safe to use and their position on the same remains unchanged.
“We stand firmly behind the decades of independent scientific analysis by medical experts around the world that confirms talc-based Johnson’s baby powder is safe, does not contain asbestos, and does not cause cancer,” it said.
They assured that their priority remains to serve their customers satisfactorily and that their products are loved by many.
“We remain fully committed to ensuring JOHNSON’S products are loved by parents and families for years to come,” added the statement.
Since 1980, when consumer activists began to worry that talc may have included residues of the carcinogen asbestos, Johnson & Johnson has produced baby powder made of cornstarch.
However, the business began to stop selling the powder in North America in 2020 after recalling some bottles in 2019.
Nappy rash can be avoided with baby powder, which is also used cosmetically and as a dry shampoo.
More than 40,000 cancer victims filed complaints against J&J, accusing them of selling the medication knowing it carried potential health concerns like asbestos poisoning.
Microscopic asbestos fibers that become airborne cause asbestos contamination. Anyone close is at risk of breathing or ingesting the poisonous mineral dust because it can linger in the air for hours.
It may result in mesothelioma, a form of cancer that forms in the lining that covers the outside of several body organs, and lung cancer.
