Jacaranda Saga; Azimio La Umoja And Kenya Kwanza Supporters Clash At The Jacaranda Grouds
On Sunday, police used tear gas canisters to disperse a raucous crowd of Kenya Kwanza and Azimio political supporters at the Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi.
After a dispute between the two political camps over a double booking of the venue, police officers sealed off the venue on Sunday morning.
Police officers used tear gas to disperse the crowd that had gathered at the venue, and some were seen pelting stones at the officers, while a campaign truck branded in UDA colors was parked nearby.
Teargas could be seen smoldering as the clash continued, with scores of people in the audience fleeing the scene. Two people were injured, and one person was arrested.
The mayhem occurs against a backdrop of political undertones, as reports indicate that the premise was double booked because both Kenya Kwanza and Embakasi MP Babu Owino were scheduled to hold rallies on the same day.
Both DP Ruto’s team and Azimio, through Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, claimed they had legitimately obtained permission to hold rallies on the aforementioned grounds.
Police officers were deployed to the venue early Sunday morning to manage potential security threats.
Deputy President William Ruto, on the other hand, has insisted on his presence, ordering his supporters to gather at the rally site.
“The Kenya Kwanza fraternity and the entire hustler nation wishes a blessed Sunday to all na tukutane Jacaranda after church,” said DP Ruto in a tweet.
