IGAD Sends Election Observers To 11 Counties Across The Country
In preparation for the general election on August 9, election observers have been sent to 11 Counties.
The observers who would monitor the electoral process in each county were dispatched on Sunday by Mulatu Teshome, head of the IGAD short-term Election Observation Mission (IGADEOM).
In the counties of Nairobi, Nyeri, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega, Machakos, and Mombasa, the deployed observers would be stationed.
Former Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopian President Teshome stated that the observers are diplomats and officials of election authorities from six IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) member states: Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda
IGAD’s mandate to promote good governance, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law is furthered by stating that the deployment of IGADEOM in Kenya is in line with that goal.
The mission will present its findings in preliminary statements and eventually comprehensive reports with recommendations for future elections and a more in-depth study of the conduct of the election.
