IEBC Voter Registration Process: 3 Simple Steps
The article guides you on IEBC voter registration process and reasons you should consider registering
For one to be registered as an eligible voter in Kenya under the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC), his or her original national identification documents are needed to verify that they qualify to be a voter. For one to be qualified for registration, they should be Kenyan citizens and should have attained 18 years and above.
IEBC Voter Registration Process
- A qualified voter should avail themselves to the registration officer at a designated registration center near them during the official working hours and must have their original identification documents.
- One will be required to fill in a registration form, which is known as FORM A.
- Once registered, one will be issued a registration acknowledgment form that has all their official voter details. This is to prove that they are registered voters.
However, note that the form given will not be a requirement to vote.

Occasions where one can be denied voter registration
- If you are below 18 years of age.
- If you don’t have a valid Kenyan passport or your original national identification card.
- If a competent court declares you to be mentally unstable or of unsound mind.
- If you are found guilty of an election offense by the election court or found guilty of any election offense during the preceding five years.
- When you are undischarged bankrupt.
A person is not allowed to register as a voter twice. You can only register once as a voter at any constituency or registration center of your own choice. It is an election offense to register more than once.
If you are found registered more than once, you are liable to conviction and pay a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand Kenyan shillings or sent to prison for a period not exceeding one year, and in some cases both. You will be then barred from undergoing any IEBC voter registration process or voting in the immediate election and the one that follows next.
Also, a person can transfer as a voter to another registration center at any place of his or her choice in the country within the registration period.
Reasons why you are encouraged to register as a voter
- Allows you to vie for any elective seat/position
- Allows you to propose or second your preferred candidate for the nomination process.
- Gives you the power to vote and elect leaders of your own choice.
- Gives you the right to nominate candidates of your choice for election
- Gives you the moral authority to hold leaders accountable for their actions.
