IEBC States Areas That May Require Use Of Manual Registers
In case the KIEMS kit fails, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared regions where the manual register might be used.
The IEBC deputy chairman Juliana Cherera revealed on Tuesday that 84 polling places in the Kibwezi West constituency of Makueni county had been given permission to use the manual register.
In Kakamega County, notably in the Matungu, Mumias West, and Mumias East constituencies, 154 additional polling places will also employ manual registers.
She mentioned that the KEIMS kits had irreversible issues, and returning officials in those areas had written to the commission asking for authorization to utilize the manual registers.
“The areas have been ascertained and the returning officers in those regions have written emails to the commission asking to be given authority to use the manual register,” she said.
She also addressed complaints of KIEMS Kit malfunctions at various polling places across the nation.
Cherera reaffirmed that in order to address reported concerns, the commission is collaborating closely with its ICT officers on the ground.
When ICT officials are called to a polling place, Cherera explained, “they verify to make sure the issue is the failure of the kit and not any other fault.”
She continued by saying that the commission will follow the steps outlined in the Court of Appeal’s decision regarding the manual register.
According to the judgement, the IEBC must only utilize the printed voter list when the KIEMS kits are entirely inoperable and cannot be repaired or replaced.
