IEBC Returning Officer For Embakasi East Goes Missing
Daniel Musyoka, the returning officer for the Embakasi East Constituency, has been formally reported as missing since he vanished on Thursday, August 11.
The elections official was last seen at the East African School of Aviation tallying center, where he had been led by his bodyguard, according to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, who made the announcement during a media briefing on Friday in the Bomas of Kenya.
Mr. Musyoka is alleged to have taken a call while at the tallying center, but he is not said to have returned to his workstation.
“Reports received by the commission indicate that at around 9am on Thursday, August 11, Mr. Musyoka as escorted from his house to the tallying centre by his bodyguard,” said Chebukati.
He reportedly left the office at around 9.45 am to make a phone call, but he never came back.
Chebukati said that the family’s and the electoral commission’s attempts to get in touch with Mr. Musyoka had been fruitless.
“The commission is deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and calls upon the relevant security agencies to speeding investigate this matter,” said Chebukati.
Since then, the Embakasi Police Station has received a report of his disappearance with the OB number 24/11/08/2022.
The deputy returning officer has subsequently taken over Mr. Musyoka’s responsibilities while the search for him continues.
