IEBC Postpones Voting In Eldas Constituency In Wajir County To Wednesday
For the 2018 General Election, residents of Wajir County’s Eldas Constituency will need to wait a little longer to cast their ballots.
Francis Wanderi, a commissioner for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), claims that the exercise has been postponed to Wednesday, August 10, due to instances of insecurity in the region.
Wanderi stated that voting places in the region would open to the public on Wednesday at 6 am and closing once all voters had cast their ballots while speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Tuesday.
“Elections in Eldas constituency, Wajir County have been adjourned due to security reasons and voting shall commence tomorrow at 6 am,” said Wanderi.
The IEBC commissioner, while urging residents to use the electoral commission’s toll-free line to report cases of electoral malpractice, likewise dispelled fears that the delayed results will affect the tallying of presidential results.
“It will not affect our timelines in terms of presidential results announcement because if it is done tomorrow, by the end of the day, they will be able to tally and transmit the results and we shall continue to count them and then after the results are collated at the constituency they will be airlifted to Bomas of Kenya,” he said.
