IEBC Now Wants Idlers To Leave Bomas Tallying Centre
All those who are not participating in the vote verification process must leave the National Tallying Center at the Bomas of Kenya, according to an order from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
No one who is not a member of the officials designated by the commission may enter the auditorium, according to an order from Abdi Guliye, the commissioner in charge of operations.
The goal, according to Guliye, is to guarantee that the process is disrupted as little as possible.
“From this minute forwards this tallying center will only have the presence of presidential agents, chief agents, deputy chief agents, observers, clerks doing the verification process, the media and the diplomats,” said Guliye during a press update on Saturday.
“Nobody else will be allowed to sit in this auditorium from this minute on.”
Commissioner Guliye continued by saying that security has been tightened in the vicinity and that no one is to enter the site per directions.
Wafula Chebukati, the head of the IEBC, expressed concern about the way the process is going and how it is affecting their ability to fulfill deadlines.
He went over the results processing flow and claimed that it would streamline the procedure and ensure quicker results processing.
“It is taking about 3 to 4 hours to process one Returning Officer. As a result of this flow some of our officers have stayed here for three days which is totally unacceptable,” said Chebukati.
“Returning officers in the queue will hand over their original results to the national returning officer thereafter they report to the ICT desk for the verification of the transmitted results Forms 34A against the original Forms 34A,” he added.
“Thereafter presidential agents will be given copies of the results Forms 34A ad Forms 34B for their own use.”
265 returning officers have reported to the center so far, and 141 of them have been dealt with. Chebukati reported that 124 people are still waiting.
