IEBC Denies Didmus Barasa’s Agent Certificate After Being Re-Elected Kimilili MP
Didmus Barasa, the newly elected MP for Kimilili, has been instructed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to choose his own nomination certificate.
While declaring Didmus the winner of the MP race at St. Lukes Kimilili tallying center, the constituency’s returning officer George Omondi refused to issue his agent the nomination certificate.
The certificate may only be given to MP Barasa, who has been absent since he was suspected of shooting his opponent’s assistant on the evening of August 9, according to the returning officer.
After being named the MP-elect, Barasa sent a tweet from his hiding spot thanking the people of Kimilili for their support.
“Thank you the great people of Kimilili Constituency for re-electing me overwhelmingly for another term. I love you bits,” he wrote.
Since then, DCI investigators have been waiting for the lawmaker to turn himself in at a neighboring police station.
The investigators have now offered Barasa six hours to surrender or else.
“WANTED FOR MURDER The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is warning Hon Didmus Barasa, who has since gone into hiding after the brutal murder of one Brian Olunga, to surrender to the nearest police station within the next 6-hours,” read a tweet by DCI.
