IEBC Confirms There Will Be Use Of Both Manual And Digital Voters’ Registar During Elections
Both a digital and paper voters list will be used, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Raila Odinga, a presidential candidate for Azimio La Umoja, and his allies have been exerting increasing pressure for the manual register to be added to the digital register.
Marjan H. Marjan, the commission’s chief executive officer, stated that the commission would follow a 2017 judgement that stated the digital register should be used as the primary register during the IEBC press briefing on Thursday, July 7.
The commission did state that it would switch to a manual record created from the digitized register in the case of a technological failure.
“IEBC is abiding by a court of appeal ruling in 2017 that the primary register to be used is the digital register and that in the event of technology failure the manual register is used and the manual register is prepared from the digital register,” said Marjan.
