IEBC Chair Chebukati Explains How Election Winners Will Be Declared
Announcing that the general election had entered the stage of result transmission, which entails the transmission and verification of the election results, Chebukati praised the voters who had shown up to exercise their democratic right.
From the level of constituency tallying all the way up to the level of national tallying, Chebukati streamlined the election transmission procedure.
Results from polling places will be tallied at the constituency level, along with declarations of winners for the seats of members of the national assembly (MPs) and members of county assemblies (MCAs), as well as the collation of presidential, gubernatorial, and senatorial county woman representation.
The county tallying center is where the results of the governor, senate, and county women representation races are finalized and declared.
Chebukati stated that the commission will be comparing the results of transmitted photos of form 34As to the original copies at the national tallying center.
“The images will be coming in and we shall be verifying them. We have set desks aside for the verification which will have IEBC officials and presidential election agents,” Chebukati elaborated.
The national tallying center will also collate Form 34Cs that contain the results of all the polling stations and verify constituency images of Form 34Bs against their originals.
The national tally will then confirm if a candidate has obtained 50 + 1 votes for the election and whether they have obtained 25% of the votes cast in the majority of counties.
The commission will announce the winners and present them with presidential election certificates. The results declared at the polling place will be final and cannot be overturned, according to Chebukati.
