ICS Fred Matiang’i Launched An Operation To Capture A Gang That Has Been Terrorizing Nakuru Residents
Speaking in Nakuru county, Matiang’i said that Hilary Mutyambai, the inspector general of police, had taken up the case and had promised that the police force will deal with the group harshly.
He continued by saying that sufficient safeguards were in place to keep the extremist organization in check.
According to media accounts, the organization preys on young girls, sexually assaults them, strangles them to death, and then burns the bodies to hide the bodies’ tracks.
The gang’s most recent victim, Susan Wambui, a mother of three, was killed and her body was completely burned this past Tuesday.
Wambui’s family claims that she was murdered in front of her young child while working at a mobile money store in Mawanga, Nakuru county. According to the family, a postmortem showed she had been strangled with a rope.
“The results say that she was strangled from behind, either with a rope or a wire of four millimeters. The fingers were pale blue and her hands were already stretched showing signs of struggle. They stole cash box and TV.”
The attackers also murdered 23-year-old Diana Opicho, who was being burned to death when her brother arrived.
Diana’s father, Jotham Opicho, claims that by the time her brother showed up, her corpse was wrapped in blankets and clothing.
“My son informed me that she was covered in mattresses and clothes indicating that they were ready to burn the body like they were doing in other places,” he stated.
“Many of us thought that she had died by suicide but by the way the house was burnt and the way the postmortem results, my daughter was killed and then burned,” Peter Kariuki, Grace’s father, stated.
Samson Abanji, the head of Nakuru North Police, confirmed that they had detained one suspect in connection with the crimes and were moving swiftly to capture the gang.
