Former Governor Mike Sonko Filed An Appeal Challenging Impeachment On Time
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko timely filed an appeal against his impeachment, according to Supreme Court Registrar Letizia Wachira.
According to a letter from Wachira dated June 21,2022, the petition was physically sent to the register on May 20, 2022, and the appeal was filed with the court system on May 4.
Attorney Duncan Okatch had objected to the Supreme Court Registrar, stating that the e-filing system had been changed to reflect the time when Sonko’s appeal was filed.
The Registrar, however, is sure that the filing dates have not changed or been altered in any way.
Okatch had previously asserted that the dates had been changed following the filing of a preliminary objection and an application based on the timeframes of the appeal seeking to dismiss Sonko’s petition.

“The import of this letter is to inform you that not only did the petitioner (Sonko) fail to comply with the Supreme Court Rules with regards to the Appeals timelines, but has also interfered with the Judiciary E-filing system,” Okatch said in the letter.
In a separate case, Sonko’s appeal has been requested to be dismissed by the Supreme Court on the grounds that it was submitted too late by Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu and the city’s County Assembly.
“That failure of the appellant to file the petition of appeal within 30 days only shows that the appellant was no longer interested in the appeal,” read court papers.
