First Lady, Rachel Ruto’s Plan To Transform Kenya Through Faith, Women Empowerment And Climate Change
First Lady Rachel Ruto has revealed the three strategic pillars she plans to use to alter the nation during her tenure as First Lady.
Mama Rachel remarked during the 27th Ordinary General Assembly of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) on Sunday that under her leadership, she will endeavor to reshape the nation via economic empowerment of women, combating climate change, and religion diplomacy.
She went on to say that her first pillar, women’s economic empowerment, will enable Kenyan women create their livelihoods and enterprises so that they may participate in the economic change.
This, she claims, will be accomplished through her main program, Joyful Women Organization, which provides table banking to women around the country. So now, the organization has 150,000 members and a monthly revenue of Ksh.2.5 billion ($20 million).
“First pillar is the women economic empowerment and in that, we have included financial health and financial inclusion. Our aim is to empower women and ensure they are financially included,” she said.
She added: “We have had the opportunity to work with women in our nation to financially include them. It also included credit and MSMEs, capacity building and livelihoods, trade and market access.”
“Under the women empowerment through the table banking, members save and borrow directly for their savings for short and long-term loans.”
The First Lady went on to say that her second pillar, environment and climate action, will strive to address difficulties in the green and blue economies, as well as community health and wellness.
Mama Rachel declared that she will tackle the country’s recurring drought by planting 500 million trees by 2032, all of which will be done by women.
This, according to her, is in line with President William Ruto’s ambition to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
