According to authorities, a father who intended to sell his three albino children to be used in witchcraft rituals was detained in Mozambique before he could complete the transaction.
Three kids, ages nine to 16, were rescued over the weekend, according to police in the northwest Tete region, who received an anonymous tip. Their father and uncle were were taken into custody.
According to local police spokeswoman Feliciano da Camara, the two allegedly intended to traffic the children to neighboring Malawi where they could be sold for the equivalent of roughly $40,000.

“Investigations were carried out and it was possible to rescue (the) three minors… from captivity,” Câmara said.
Hundreds of thousands of people worldwide are affected by the genetic aberration known as albinism, which is brought on by a deficiency in melanin, the pigment that gives skin, hair, and eyes their colors.
Attacks on albinos have increased in some sub-Saharan African nations, where it is thought that using their body parts in witchcraft rituals will bring good fortune and money.
A Malawian court condemned a Catholic priest to 30 years in prison and four other defendants to life in prison on June 27 for the 2018 murder of an albino man.
According to Judge Dorothy NyaKaunda Kamanga, Thomas Muhosha, the pastor of a parish in Machinga, which is located 60 miles (100 kilometers) northeast of Blantyre, had intended to sell MacDonald Masambuka, 22,’s tissue.
The murder took place at the height of a rampage in Malawi that resulted in the deaths of nearly 40 people with albinism and numerous other assaults.
Brother of the victim was one of the five people found guilty.
“The convicts took advantage of the deceased’s psychological need for love,” the judge said.
