Family In Great Sadness After Their Son Vanished Into The Lake Never To Be Seen Again
A 30-year-old man fell into Lake Victoria while on a fishing trip in the deepest area of the lake, leaving his family in Sumba Village, Muhuru-Bay, Migori County, in sadness.
May 9, 2022. On that day, Isaack Kawa died after falling from a canoe while fishing in the waters off Lukuba, a small portion of Tanzania. Tanzania’s neighboring island of Lukuba.
Three months later, his body has never been found.
Young Kawa left his wife Dorothy Kawa pregnant, and she later gave birth to stunning twins.
“My brother left behind three children, and a pregnant wife, she gave birth on July 26, to twins. I wish he was here to share in the joy,” said his elder brother Santos Kawa.
The family, friends and Sumba-Beach management have been combing the deep waters in search of their kin – but have not been successful.
“Our search parties have burnt some 2000 liters of fuel shuttling across the deep waters of Lake Victoria in boats searching for the body, but we have not found the body yet,” says a dejected Santos.
But what really happened on that fateful day.
According to Silas Kimonge, who was on the same boat with the deceased, all was fine until tragedy struck that fateful day, at around 2pm.
“I remember we left the beach on May 8, at dawn, around 4am, and travelled deep into the waters for 11 hours, until 3pm,” Kimonge told Wananchi Reporting.
“There were three of us in the boat, and there were two other boats, so it was a small procession,” adds Kimonge.
May 8 went well. There were no challenges, or any signs that tragedy would strike the following day.
“All of us resumed fishing on May 9; our second day in the waters,” he says, adding that Kawa was in charge of cooking in the boat on that day… which he did until around 1pm.”
The fisherman took turns cooking for the three or four days that they would be away from dry land. They carried their food, including cooking oil, wheat, salt, and other consumables, as well as a Jiko.
On that fateful day, Kawa was in charge of the kitchen.
