Ethiopian Airlines’ Pilots Fell Asleep Missing Landing
Last week, the two pilots of an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on a flight from Khartoum, Sudan, to Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, missed the landing.
When the autopilot disconnected, the crew members were awakened by an alarm in the cockpit.
After a two-hour journey from Khartoum, Sudan, the plane, Flight ET343, was scheduled to land in Addis at 6:20AM, according to Ethiopian Airlines sources.
However, air traffic control in the capital of Ethiopia noticed that the 154-seat aircraft didn’t descend for the final approach; instead, it stayed at a cruising height of 37,000 feet.
The controllers’ attempts to get in touch with the pilots were all unsuccessful.
After regaining their composure, the pilots made a loop and once more approached the runaway, safely landing the plane 25 minutes later.
