EACC Grab Properties And Vehicles Of A Nairobi County Official Earning 21K
A Nairobi County Procurement Officer’s nine houses and eleven vehicles have been ordered by the High Court to be frozen by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) due to allegations of graft.
In a statement to news outlets on Thursday, the EACC claimed that Michael Auka Ajwang’s wealth had been noticed because it was out of proportion to his known source of income.
According to the commission, Ajwang received a net remuneration of Ksh. 21,000 each month from January 2014 to June 2022, for a total of Ksh. 2,122,232.56 during that time.
However, over the same time period, Ajwang allegedly got Ksh. 40,847,000 in cash from organizations that won contracts from Nairobi City County, which the EACC believes to be bribery.
“Pending conclusion of investigations, EACC has obtained preservation orders prohibiting the transfer or disposal of or other dealing of the assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption pursuant to section 56(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act,” read the statement.
Nine pieces of land bought in Siaya, Kisumu, and Nairobi counties, 11 vehicles, and a three-star hotel called “The Hydeout Riviera Limited” located on the Kisumu-Bondo route are among the assets that the EACC has since seized.
The case hearing was scheduled for September 22, 2022.
