DPP Withdraws Terror Charges Against Journalist Laban Cliff Onserio After Court Allowed
The court has permitted the DPP to abandon the charges against Standard Media group journalist Laban Cliff Onserio.
This follows a motion to the court to have the case dismissed on the basis that there is insufficient evidence to charge him.
Onserio, a journalist, was arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) investigators on Sunday, December 18 2022, and was believed to be in possession of a grenade, threatening to use it to harm security officers.
He was apprehended in the basement of the Holy Family Basilica by investigators sent by the church’s security guards during an altercation.
The journalist, who previously worked as Deputy Communications Director at the State House’s Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU), is believed to have gone to pick up his car at the cathedral’s commercial parking lot.
During the argument, the guards summoned detectives, who searched Onserio’s car and allegedly discovered a stun grenade.
He was subsequently brought before the anti-terror court, and the police were ordered to release him if accusations against him were not preferred.
