Davis Chirchir Claims He Was Detained At The Bomas With His Phone And Laptop Taken
Davis Chirchir has disclosed that on August 11, as the verification and tabulation of the presidential elections were taking place at the facility, he was apprehended in the Bomas of Kenya and had his laptop and phones stolen.
The head of staff in the Office of the Deputy President explained how his car was blocked as he departed Bomas, which also served as the national tallying center for the presidential elections, on the evening of August 11 in an affidavit dated August 26.
“…my car was blocked by a white Land Cruiser GKB 420U, with several plainclothes police officers, and two Subaru Outback saloon cars KCA 451D and KCM 750Q, metallic in color,” Chirchir noted.
He claimed that the police officers had ordered him to exit the vehicle and had taken his phone and laptop.
After being violently seized from him, the devices were held for 30 minutes before being returned to him.
The drama also involved the UDA party’s head of communications, Wanjohi Githae.
“They also detained the car behind me, which was being used by Wanjohi Githae, the director of communications for the UDA party,” the affidavit added.
Chirchir confirmed that no justification was given for the detention, adding that he reported the matter to police at Langata Police Station.
“Finally we were released and I reported the incident at Langata Police Station vide OB Number 45/11/AUG/22,” his statement read.
John Githongo’s allegations that he (Chirchir) participated in a plot to intercept and rig Forms 34A and the results of the presidential elections were refuted by him.
John Githongo claimed that the gang operated out of the “Uchaguzi tallying” center in a plea to the Supreme Court, putting Chirchir and five other people at the center of a conspiracy to tamper with Forms 34A and the final results of the presidential election.
