CS Magoha Wants Day Schools In Election Areas To Close Next Week Monday
On Monday, August 29, day schools in Mombasa and Kakamega counties as well as six other locations with upcoming polls would be shuttered to make room for the procedure.
George Magoha, the cabinet secretary for education, stated on Tuesday that the institutions would reopen on Tuesday, August 30, following the conclusion of the elections.
“The IEBC has announced elections on 29th and we understand most schools are required as tallying centers. Tallying centers that may be required for more than one day should be taken to tertiary institutions,” said Prof. Magoha.
The CS however noted that boarding schools will not be closed.
“Children in day schools will remain at home on 29th and report the following day. Boarding schools acting like tallying centers will not be closed,” he stated.
The postponed General Election has been moved to Monday, August 29, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
A total of eight elections, including the governorship elections in Mombasa and Kakamega counties, were announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati as being postponed.
The elections for the remaining six National Assembly members were place in Kitui Rural (Kitui County), Kacheliba (West Pokot County), Pokot South (West Pokot County), and Rongai (Rongai County) (Nakuru County).
Elections for Member of County Assembly Wards in Kwa Njenga (Embakasi South Constituency – Nairobi County) and Nyaki West had also been advanced by the electoral body (North Imenti Constituency – Meru County).
