CS Magoha Orders Closure Of Schools Ahead Of Next Week Elections
To make room for general election preparations, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has ordered that schools close on Tuesday, August 2.
According to a statement Magoha distributed to newsrooms, the decision was made after discussions with the appropriate stakeholders.
The CS announced that all institutions of basic education would be closed from Tuesday, August 2, through Wednesday, August 10, with students returning to class on Thursday, August 11.
“Schools and parents are advised to ensure that learners from all basic education institutions proceed on their final half term effective Tuesday, August 2, and resume Thursday, August 11, 2022,” Magoha said.
In a gazette notice, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced that 17 institutions of higher education and more than 250 schools will serve as tallying centers.
The announcement follows the CS’s earlier directive directing schools to close on August 6 by one day.
Speaking on Sunday, July 31, at Rev.
Gitau Secondary School, CS Magoha announced that schools would be closed from August 6 to August 15 to make room for the upcoming elections. In addition, the CS advised school administrators to permit returning students because there wasn’t much time left to finish the curriculum.
