Confirm Criminal Gang Leader Dickson Macharia Arrested In Nakuru By Newly Appointed Police
Dickson Macharia Waithera, the notorious Confirm criminal gang’s boss, has been taken into custody by police in Nakuru.
Macharia, also known as Deco, was detained early on Wednesday in Nakuru.
The gang is charged with being responsible for the unrest in Nakuru that led to a crackdown on criminals.
Peter Mwanzo, a former Kasarani Deputy County Police Commander, was promoted and appointed Nakuru Police Commander by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i in late June.
One of the tactics the ministry used to combat the criminal gangs that have wrecked devastation in several areas of Nakuru, particularly in Nakuru Town East and West, was this.
“We have made changes in the management of security in this city and from today, we will have police patrols. We want the residents to have a new relationship with the police,” said Matiang’i.
The CS, who was in Nakuru with the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, and the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) Douglas Kanja, assured the locals that the government would purge the criminal element, particularly members of the infamous gang Confirm.
“We have all the resources, we are not going to sleep until we get the last one of them,” he said.
The group has recently been under fire for an uptick in killings, rapes, and muggings in Mawanga.
Before security personnel got involved, Nakuru citizens had turned to mob punishment to reduce crime.
Three members of the gang were attacked by enraged neighborhood residents who rushed on them, murdering one of them. The three were apprehended while attempting to steal residents’ cell phones.
