Campaign For Yourself And Leave Me Alone; President Uhuru Responds To Ruto
Kenya Kwanza’s camp has launched a torrent of attacks, and in response, they begged President Uhuru Kenyatta to refrain from meddling in their political matters.
The team was instructed by President Kenyatta to cease bringing up his name during their campaigning and instead concentrate on rallying support for their cause.
After Sunday’s official launching of the Nairobi Expressway, he was speaking to the people.
“Campaign for yourself and leave me alone. I am doing my job, I finish, you go and ask for votes, if Kenyans vote for you it is okay, if they don’t we go home together where is the problem. The world will still go on.”
He also responded to criticism from his second-in-command that he is backing Kenyan presidential candidate Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja One by asserting that he has the right to do so.
“Everyone, including myself, has the freedom of drumming up for the people they want. But the people of Kenyans have the final say there is no need for sending threats,” said President Uhuru.
The president urged leaders to keep the peace in the run-up to the August General Election, which is set to take place in eight days.
“Let us be calm, let us do the right thing and let us tell Kenyans what we shall do for them.”
In recent weeks, President Kenyatta and DP Ruto have engaged in bare-knuckled conflict, particularly over who is to blame for the successes and failures of the Jubilee 10-year reign.
The dispute rapidly got heated as DP Ruto criticized the president for supporting Raila, the political competitor he had previously supported in the 2013 and 2017 elections.
