Bomet County Governor Aspirant Isaac Ruto Raises Bribery Attempt On Voters
Isaac Rutto, a candidate for governor of Bomet, has expressed concern over reports of voter bribing in some voting places.
The leader of the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party claims that since previous night, unidentified individuals have tried to disperse money around the county.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) authorities and the police, according to the former governor of Bomet, intervened and located the culprits.
“Last night, we witnessed the security agents apprehend a few individuals who had tried to distribute money to potential voters,” Rutto said.
According to Rutto, another scheme was thwarted whereby potential voters had been instructed to take pictures of their ballot as proof they had voted for a certain candidate in exchange for money.
“The layout of the polling centre is quite transparent even as they maintain voter secrecy. Voters are not allowed to take pictures of how they voted because there were incidences where residents were instructed to take pictures in exchange for money,” he said.
After casting his ballot at Chebaraa Primary School in the Chepalungu Constituency, Rutto spoke.
Rutto is seeking to retake the governor’s seat after losing to the late Governor Joyce Laboso in the 2017 general election. He is running alongside his 29-year-old running mate, Doris Chepkoech Cheborgei.
Rutto and the incumbent Hillary Barchok are the two candidates in the Bomet governor’s race. After Laboso’s passing, the latter took the helm.
