“Back To Private Sector” Moses Kuria Accepts Defeat On Kiambu Governor Seat
Moses Kuria, the Gatundu South MP, appears to have given up on the run for governor of Kiambu long before the results have been announced.
In what is perceived as an early admission of loss, Kuria said on his official Facebook page that he had loved representing the people of Gatundu and is now prepared to concentrate on his own business.
“I enjoyed every minute of my 8 years in elective politics. Back to private sector. Happily,” said Kuria at 11:25pm on Tuesday.
Along with six other candidates, Kuria was running against incumbent Kiambu Governor James Nyoro for the position of governor under the Chama Cha Kazi party. Nyoro was up for re-election.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo of the Tujibebe Party, former Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi of the UDA, independent candidate Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle, Juliet Kimemia of the KANU, and Mwende Gatabaki were the other contenders (Safina Party).
After the passing of the previous MP, the late Jossy Ngugi, Kuria was elected MP for Gatundu South in a by-election without facing any opposition in 2014.
Kuria said in July that Kiambu lawmakers with ties to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) were conspiring to thwart his run for governor.
Kuria charged that his supposed opponents had halted their campaigning to help Wamatangi, who is also running for the top spot in the County in the August elections.
