Azimio La Umoja Knows How The Elections Were Rigged; Kioni Claims
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance will submit a lawsuit to the Supreme Court contesting the results of the 2022 presidential elections, according to ubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
In a Friday interview, Kioni emphasized that Azimio would present the petition in the coming days, complete with what he claims will be proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the August 9 presidential election results had been tampered with.
Kioni claims that Azimio is currently establishing the groundwork for a petition to the Supreme Court regarding the aforementioned outcomes.
“Azimio is still keen (on filing the petition). How do you allow that kind of theft to go on? We know how the votes were suppressed and our legal team is currently handling that but rest assured the petition will be in court,” Kioni said
He once again castigated the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for their role in the alleged electoral malpractice, going as far as saying that some employees of the electoral commission colluded with rival politicians to rig the elections.
“We have gone through an electoral process that experienced rigging on an industrial scale, something that we have never seen since 1963. It is an embarrassment caused by the IEBC. If that rigging is not addressed by our courts of law, it makes no sense to go into any elections in future,” he said.
Despite the aforementioned complaints, Kioni thanked Kenyans for keeping the peace after IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati announced the winner of the election on Monday, claiming that the 2017 handshake between outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga played a significant role in this.
In addition, Kioni commented on several instances in which independent candidates who had won seats in elections switched allegiances to William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza party, warning that this could cost them their seats.
His remarks follow Mandera Governor Ali Roba’s UDM party’s Thursday decision to join Kenya Kwanza despite having previously been a member of the Azimio alliance in the days preceding the election.
