All Business And Bars To Be Closed In Kisumu On Election Day
On August 8, 2022, at midnight, all bars, clubs, and other places of amusement in Kisumu County will shut down so that people may get ready for the general election.
Abala Wanga, the city manager of Kisumu County, issued the news on Thursday, stating that the businesses will only resume operations at 5 p.m. on August 9, after the voting process is over.
Wanga stated that other businesses including marketplaces, malls, restaurants, and cafes will not be exempt from the mandate that aims to encourage voters in the area to cast ballots.
“On August 9, the whole county’s business activities will be closed until the time that voting ends. So as early as midnight of August 8, all bars and activities of any kind will be closed,” Wanga told Citizen Digital.
“I will issue a circular on the same as soon as possible under powers vested upon me as a city manager under the Urban Areas Act.”
According to Wanga, bodaboda and matatu operators in the county will not be bound to conform to the directive.
“The only people we will leave are the bodaboda and matatus that will ferry people to the polling centres. This will allow free movement of voters on August 9 in terms of mobilisation of voters within the city without much disruption,” he said.
